[ARCHIVED] Coronavirus Daily Update: December 30, 2020

This daily update will provide details on the status of emergency services, Township operations and more along with links to useful information during the Coronavirus outbreak.

November 19, 2020 Update:  Governor Wolf and PA Secretary of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine, have issued four new mitigation efforts due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the Commonwealth.  The new mitigation efforts include the following:

  • Protecting Our Health Care System (Memorandum issued to acute care hospitals outlining expectations to care for Pennsylvanians who need care during the pandemic)
  • New Traveler Testing Order (Order issued requiring negative COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to entering PA or mandatory 14-day quarantine when returning from other states)
  • Strengthened Masking Order (New order strengthens masking order issued April 15th to include increased mandatory mask directives)
  • Recommendations for Colleges and Universities (Departments of Health and Education issue recommendations for colleges and universities to implement a testing plan for when students return to campus following the holidays)

September 9, 2020 Update: Governor Wolf announced on September 8, 2020 that Pennsylvania restaurants may increase indoor dining to 50 percent occupancy beginning Monday, September 21, 2020.  To ensure that these businesses operate safely and to assure employees and customers they can work and dine safely, restaurants will commit to strictly complying to all public health safety guidelines and orders through a self-certification process.

July 1, 2020 Update: The Pennsylvania Secretary of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine, expanded on the business safety order signed in April requiring masks to be worn in businesses.  The new order requires masks to be worn whenever anyone leaves home.  This order is effective immediately. June 19, 2020 Update: Commissioners, Marian Moskowitz, Josh Maxwell and Michelle Kichline announce that Chester County will move to green phase of reopening on June 26, 2020.  Visit Chester County Moves To Green to view announcement and get details on what residents and businesses need to know about going to green.

June 16, 2020 Update: Visit Use of Parks and Facilities During Yellow Phase of Reopening to view updated rules and restrictions.

June 9, 2020 Update: Chester County is currently offering PCR (nasal swab) tests for individuals with symptoms or who have had a known close contact with a positive case in the last 14 days. Testing will be offered at multiple sites throughout the week.

June 4, 2020 Update:  If you observe trees down in a roadway, please contact the East Whiteland Township Police Department at 610-647-1440 (non-emergency number).  If a tree falls on your property (driveway, yard, fence etc.), this would be the responsibility of the home or business owner.  

April 27, 2020  Update:  Governor Wolf has given temporary permission to taxing authorities, such as East Whiteland Township, to provide relief to our real estate property taxpayers by extending the 2020 discount period.. East Whiteland Township expects to extend our discount period 60 days to June 30, which coincides with the end of the face period. The East Whiteland Township Board of Supervisors will formally consider adoption of a resolution to grant that extension at a meeting on May 13, 2020.

Township Operations

Although the East Whiteland Township Building is closed for health and safety reasons, the Township remains open for business. Please call 610-648-0600 for assistance or contact staff by email. Staff continues to provide essential services to the community.

Parks and Recreation 

Visit Use of Parks and Facilities for updated information during Green Phase.

On May 14, 2020, East Whiteland Township Board of Supervisors had to make the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Summer Camp program due to Covid-19 concerns.  Information regarding 2021 Summer Camp will be updated in the Spring.

Public Meetings 

All public meetings for April have been cancelled. Details for May meetings will be announced in the near future.

Announcements from Governor’s Office 

Governor Wolf last night presented a plan for reopening Pennsylvania with a targeted May 8 start date in some areas of the state. The governor said the southeastern part of Pennsylvania will be among the last areas to reopen.

The plan categorizes reopening into three phases: red, yellow and green. Phases will be assigned based on conditions in a county, counties or region.

On Monday, Governor Wolf extended the stay-at-home order until Friday, May 8. The governor’s initial order was set to expire on April 30.
