The Chester County Health Department reports that 2018 is shaping up to be one of the worst years for mosquito-borne diseases.
Many considered 2012 to be the worst year historically for mosquito-borne diseases. Unfortunately in Chester County and Pennsylvania 2018 is fast approaching, and in some cases already surpassed 2012 numbers. The Health Department has a mosquito-borne diseases program which involves education, surveillance and control efforts. A critical element of the surveillance includes collecting mosquito samples using traps that aid in monitoring the mosquito population’s rate of infection diseases such as West Nile Virus (WNV) and Zika, which is spread to people by mosquito bites.
