Route 29 (Morehall Road) motorists will encounter a new traffic pattern between the Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange and Atwater Drive/General Warren Boulevard in East Whiteland and Charlestown townships beginning tomorrow, July 2, through July 31, for construction activities related to an improvement project to reconstruct a portion of the highway, according to PennDOT.
During this four-week operation, all Route 29 (Morehall Road) traffic will be shifted to the northbound side of the highway. Motorists will have two northbound lanes and one southbound lane available at all times. Route 29 drivers, as well as motorists exiting the Pennsylvania Turnpike, are advised to allow extra time when traveling through this work zone because backups and slowdowns will occur during construction. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Under this improvement project, crews are working to correct existing sinkhole and pavement subsidence issues. PennDOT is working to minimize future sinkhole problems by constructing geotechnical treatments and roadway drainage improvements to prevent surface water infiltration and provide structural support to the roadway. The project is scheduled to be completed this fall.
